Quantum Computing Is Emerging—But the Bigger Opportunity May Be the Ecosystem

quantum computing

Quantum computing is still evolving. However, some of the world's largest technology companies are already positioning for what could become the next computing evolution.

In August, Oracle announced plans to bring quantum computing into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, where quantum processors will operate alongside traditional high-performance computing and GPUs. Microsoft has also expanded its quantum research efforts, including a new research center focused on advancing and independently evaluating scalable quantum technology.

These developments don't mean quantum computing is ready to power mainstream AI today.

They signal that the infrastructure for quantum computing is beginning to take shape.

The Bigger Opportunity May Be the Ecosystem

This’s what makes the Defiance Quantum ETF (QTUM) particularly interesting.

QTUM isn't simply a collection of speculative quantum companies. Its holdings span quantum computing, machine learning, and big-data technologies, including companies involved in semiconductors, AI, cloud computing, and data infrastructure.

That distinction matters because many pure-play quantum companies remain years away from consistent profitability.

Meanwhile, companies building the infrastructure around quantum computing are generating substantial revenue today.

There’s already evidence that investors are recognizing this broader opportunity, with QTUM having gained roughly 40% in 2026. Its holdings include companies such as Cloudflare (NET), Palantir (PLTR), Snowflake (SNOW), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Microsoft (MSFT), Micron (MU), and Broadcom (AVGO), alongside pure-play quantum companies.

What I find particularly interesting is that many of these companies have already been on my MEM Suggested Holdings List, with several having generated triple-digit gains.

That's not a coincidence.

The MEM Edge approach is designed to identify the industries and companies attracting institutional investment before a technology becomes fully mainstream, using fundamental trends and technical analysis to identify emerging leadership.

We saw this with the AI and semiconductor cycle. After Micron broke out in September 2025, I added it to the MEM Edge Report as the AI-driven memory opportunity was beginning to accelerate.

While Quantum computing is much earlier in its development, that may be precisely why it's worth watching now.

History tells us the winners will be companies that are already building, and benefiting from, the ecosystem that will make quantum computing commercially viable.
